FLat white with a side of CO2 anyone?

When you undertake a Climate Fresk Workshop – the outcome is to understand the cause and effects of climate change. For participants this opens their eyes to new words, science concepts and what I like to call the “BIG WHY”….. Our Planet.

The session itself can be very confronting as we are shown the pathway that our planet has been on and the trajectory that it is going to, and although we all know that things are changing around us it is easy to just get on with our every day lives, paying bills, working and generally being human.

Engaging teams in the Earth’s climate process enables individuals and organisations to make better conscious and purposeful decisions is areas such as production, purchasing, and even hiring. Being open to putting a more sustainable lens on your decision making will not only put your business on the right track for the benefit of the planet and people but will also be more advantageous in your profit area too.

With one of the big purposeful things we can all do is take a look at our our carbon footprint. But first we need to measure where we are sitting at right now (there are plenty of free tools on line that can show you how to do this e.g. https://carbonpositiveaustralia.org.au/calculate/), this tells us where we come from. The next thing we need to do is think about where we want to get to - try to put a number to it as this will help you keep on track and focused.

NOTE | Average carbon footprint per capita in Australia is 15 tonnes - the Paris agreement stated that the individual target to stay well below 2’c should be at 2 tonnes

If this is something you are doing in your office then make sure you get the whole team onboard and document your journey - this will help you fill in your impact statement at the end of year and show just how far you have come and what else is left to do.

Another tip is to create an impact team, these are your champions who are actively responsible for this and have some KPI’s to keep them on track .

If you or your team need a few reminders to help keep on track to create a more sustainable future for us and all of those that come after us - then check out the picture below to see just how much is involved in the 1 thing that most of us do each day.
